Strategy
The construction sector lacks a shared language for embodied carbon. Data sits in silos, methodologies vary, and decision makers struggle to act with confidence. GBDI needed to turn technical rigor into something globally legible, credible, and usable across policy and industry.
The strategy centers on one idea, Open Data = Real Impact. As a community driven initiative, GBDI as the neutral backbone for global collaboration, where clarity, transparency, and standardization unlock meaningful change.

Identity & Digital
The visual identity was heavily inspired by Swiss design aesthetic—simplicity, restraint, clarity. An important factor was the ambition to empower communal action, whether than be through single business action or policy change. It was therefore integral to balance the mature, refined aspect of the brand with a human-centered approach.
Core to the identity is a custom illustration library. The word mark was meticulously crafted based on Sean Kane’s Modernist typeface. The Globe represents the global outlook and presence, balanced with an abstracted building and data lines. It is simple, refined and sophisticated.
The identity was rolled out across the website, data visualisations, iconography and social assets, resulting in a cohesive platform that scales from technical deep dives to high-level advocacy.

Outcome
GBDI now shows up with the clarity and authority needed to make embodied carbon data actionable at global scale.
